Following Blogs
~ by Jay

I see this thing on my Blogger Dashboard called "following blogs". I am not following any blogs. Is there some reason I should be? How would this be better/worse/different than using Google Reader?

Just when I feel competent with this technology, something comes along and makes me feel like mother all over again (well, not quite. My mother still hasn't figured out the difference between a file and an application, which makes for interesting phone calls, most of which end with me saying "Mom, you have a PC and I have a Mac and I can't help you". Which is not-quite-the-truth but if it saves my sanity, I'm going with it).

I am completely ignoring the Blogger "following" thing. I think they're trying to piggyback on the Twitter following vibe, and all those sites like Digg where people, I dunno, report things they liked? Seems completely pointless to me—especially since I'm highly unlikely to rack up any sort of a crowd of "followers."

No it is no better then Google Reader, but there are many people who don't feel comfortable using RSS readers (I am not sure why...) so this is just another entry point for those who use blogger as a main entry point to other blogs. Not absolutely necessary in my opinion. Our RSS and Email numbers far outweigh our Blogger Followers.

ahaha - just stumbled over your blog, i love it.

i follow all the blogs i appreciate and read everyday, but just as i thought everyone did the same i take a look at my blog roll and low and behold, barely anyone is following them either.

hm. it sounds like some time of phobia.

Welcome, Copperseal!

And thanks, Orange and Dr. Sinclair. I couldn't really see any advantage to it and it's nice to know I'm not missing something. I hate missing something.

I was going to answer, but see others have one it already. That's what I get for being behind on my blog reading -- I don't get to show off my smarts! ;)

Sometimes when I blog surf (I guess there such a thing) I will click the picture of those who are following a blog and read the follower's blog. Sometimes it's nice to see who's "following" your blog.

I like your blog and I think I'm going to follow it.

Welcome, Lynn! I often click on the profiles of my commenters and check out their blogs and sometimes, if I have time, their blogrolls. I've found some of my favorite blogs that way. I can see how the follow function would make that easier. Hmm.
